Agadir Welcomes Nearly 570,000 Tourists by May 2025
Agadir welcomed nearly 570,000 tourists by May 2025, with overnight stays reaching 2.387 million, up from 2024. Despite growth, domestic tourism declined. The UK led foreign markets, accounting for over 25% of arrivals. May saw a 4.88% rise in arrivals but a drop in occupancy rate, reflecting mixed trends ahead of the summer season.

While awaiting the summer rush and the influx of nationals, the Agadir destination welcomed nearly 570,000 tourists at the end of May 2025 in classified tourist accommodation establishments. Total overnight stays rose to 2.387 million from January to May, compared to 2.173 million for the same period in 2024.
As the end of the school year approaches, attention is turning to Agadir, where the development of the domestic market—the main source of tourists during the summer season—is a matter of particular vigilance. Despite the positive momentum recorded since the beginning of the year, in the wake of 2024, the domestic market is experiencing a decline: between January and May 2025, arrivals fell by 9.49% and overnight stays by 6.20% compared to the same period the previous year.
However, industry professionals are counting on a reversal of the trend, driven by the summer peak expected between July and early September, a period traditionally marked by a high influx of national holidaymakers.
Attendance in Agadir already exceeds half a million tourists
Meanwhile, tourist attendance at the Agadir destination continues to maintain its growth, ranking among the top five of the year, showing a sustained increase since the beginning of the year of around 9.65% compared to the same period in 2024 and 33.89% compared to the end of May 2019.
Total overnight stays also recorded an increase of 9.86% compared to 2024 and 23.35% compared to 2019. This is at least what emerges from the latest analysis of the tourism situation, for the month of May 2025, issued by the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of Agadir Souss-Massa.
In this sense, during the first five months of the year, the destination has already passed the milestone of half a million tourists by welcoming nearly 570,000 arrivals at the end of May 2025 in classified tourist accommodation establishments compared to 520,000 during the same period of 2024 and 425,900 in 2019.
For total overnight stays in classified tourist accommodation establishments at the end of May 2025, they increased to 2.387 million during the first five months compared to 2.173 million in 2024 and 1.935 million in 2019.
The English market dominates arrivals and overnight stays in Agadir
The economic analysis of the first five months of 2025 confirms the clear dominance of the British market in Agadir, both in terms of arrivals and overnight stays. This market significantly outclasses other tourist flows, establishing itself as the seaside resort’s leading foreign clientele, far ahead of the French and national markets.
At the end of May, British visitors accounted for 25.08% of arrivals and 31.85% of overnight stays, consolidating a momentum that began in 2024. Boosted by a well-structured air network, this attendance resulted in the arrival of nearly 143,000 UK nationals, generating 760,600 overnight stays, representing an average length of stay of over 5.3 days. In comparison, the French market recorded 117,360 arrivals and 553,280 overnight stays over the same period.
In this context, the average occupancy rate of the city’s classified hotel establishments reached 61.78% between January and May 2025, up 6.83 points compared to 2024, and 22.65 points compared to 2019. A level which testifies to the renewed vitality of the sector and the driving role of the British market in the revival of the destination.
An Upward Month of May
In May, total arrivals at classified tourist accommodation establishments in Agadir recorded an increase of 4.88% compared to May 2024. The number of tourists thus increased from 125,000 to 131,100.
Total overnight stays during this month recorded a slight increase of 0.76% compared to May 2024, rising from 511,654 to 515,562. This is despite the decrease in bed capacity, which fell from 32,580 beds in 2019 to 30,540 in 2025 (-6.27%).
Regarding the average occupancy rate, it recorded a decrease of 2.51 points during the month of May 2025 compared to May 2024, or 64.91% against 66.58%. These figures are far from the 36.47% recorded in May 2019.
