Andalusia Invests in AI to Enhance Tumor Detection and Public Services

Andalusia will invest €3.7 million over four years to expand AI tools that enhance tumor detection accuracy in hospitals across its eight provinces. Announced by President Juanma Moreno, the initiative builds on a pilot at Córdoba’s Reina Sofía Hospital and forms part of broader AI integration, including the upcoming ‘JuntaGPT’ platform for public administration.

Andalusia will apply Artificial Intelligence to improve the accuracy of tumor detection thanks to the implementation of this tool in computer equipment and machines in hospitals and health centers of the eight provinces , for which almost four million euros will be invested over the next four years.

The President of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno, announced this new improvement in diagnostic quality, both in mammograms and those related to other types of tumors, during the inauguration of the Andalusian Artificial Intelligence Center, located in the Granada Health Technology Park. This complex, in which 3.5 million euros have been invested, also houses the Andalusian Center for Innovation in Exponential Technologies.

Regional government of Andalusia allocates €3.7 million to expand AI-driven diagnostic tools across hospitals and advance digital transformation with the upcoming ‘JuntaGPT’ platform

“Artificial Intelligence already helps us in up to 65 current applications, but more are coming, such as the early detection of school dropout, transport management, and the efficient use of water. And a key area : improving the healthcare system with projects like the one we have already incorporated into the emergency plan for breast cancer screenings,” the President explained

Moreno was referring to the AI-based pilot project already being implemented at the Reina Sofía Hospital in Córdoba , which offers greater accuracy and precision in the analysis of potential tumors of all types. This tool will now be extended to all eight Andalusian provinces through a budget allocation of 3.7 million euros specifically earmarked for this purpose

“The Andalusian Government is aware that AI is the great engine of change. That is why we have already been integrating it into the digital transformation of the Administration, simplifying procedures and improving services, reducing waiting times… Today it is applied in 79 processes across 12 departments, such as the payment of agricultural investments or the review of rural lease agreements, to give two examples,” the president explained.

The Andalusian government’s objective is to bring Artificial Intelligence closer to city councils, businesses, and SMEs, as well as to all levels of its own administrative structure. To this end, it continues to develop its own AI platform, called ‘JuntaGPT’ , which will be a reality in 2026 and will be available to all civil servants, even from mobile devices. It will serve to optimize work and improve service to citizens.
