At CES 2026, US-based projector manufacturer AWOL Vision showcased two new 4K ultra-short throw (UST ) projectors: the Aetherion Pro and the Aetherion Max.

This week, the two devices finally launched on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, where they promptly surpassed their funding goal. Originally aiming for $500,000, the projectors have already raised over $10 million – currently equivalent to nearly €9 million.

The product launch probably didn’t require much funding: The campaign ends on April 1st, and delivery is scheduled to begin later that month, so mass production is likely already underway.

However, given the crowdfunding support already gathered, the campaign is still a tremendous success. Marketing likely played a significant role in this: AWOL Vision distributed the projectors to influencers in advance and is promoting the model series as ” the world’s sharpest 4K UST projector with triple lasers.”

The short-throw projector is designed to display 4K resolution on screens ranging from 80 to 200 inches with a projection ratio of 0.2:1. According to AWOL Vision, the contrast ratio is 6,000:1 (static) and 60,000:1 (dynamic). It also boasts 110 percent color gamut coverage according to REC 2020, support for HLG/HDR10 and 3D content, and reportedly a special process to minimize the rainbow effect.

Furthermore, the Aetherion Pro and Aetherion Max are said to be suitable not only for home theater but also for gaming: AWOL Vision claims that the projectors support VRR at refresh rates from 0.1 to 240 Hz. The response time is stated to be 1 ms, and these devices are also claimed to be the first projectors certified for Dolby Vision Gaming.

The only difference between AWOL Vision’s Aetherion Pro and the Aetherion Max is the price and brightness: The more affordable Pro model costs $2,000 on Kickstarter for a brightness of 2,600 ISO lumens, while the Max variant offers 3,300 ISO lumens for $2,200 – plus shipping.

Both devices can be connected via HDMI 2.1 or an unspecified DisplayPort version. Google TV is also supported, and the system includes a MediaTek MT9655 SoC, 8 GB of RAM, and 128 GB of storage.
