Inflation Hits Cannabis Market – Why Are People Smoking Less and What to Do About It?

Inflation is making cannabis more expensive, forcing 66% of U.S. consumers to cut back. Despite legalization, high taxes keep legal prices high. In Poland, medical cannabis remains costly, and black-market prices are rising. To save money, users opt for stronger strains, vaporizers, edibles, bulk purchases, or home cultivation where legal. Vaporization maximizes efficiency.

The prices of everything are going up, and we have to start counting not only money, but also grams. In the US, 66% of cannabis consumers admit that they have had to cut back on their spending on cannabis due to inflation.

This may come as a surprise, because cannabis is legal in many states there. And what is the situation like in Poland? Are Polish cannabis conumers also starting to think about how to spend less on dried cannabis in Poland?

People in the US are smoking less – inflation hits cannabis

The American platform NuggMD surveyed cannabis users and the results are clear: two out of three consumers are cutting back on pot. It’s supposed to be the States, but we’re also feeling the price of everything from food to rent to cannabis.

In Poland, recreational cannabis is not yet legal, but the prices of medical cannabis are prohibitive for many. And are dealers also raising prices? Inflation is also making itself felt on the black market, and prices are going up along with quality – or not.

Interestingly, other studies show that not everyone in the US is saving money on cannabis. As recently as November, most people surveyed said they were spending more on cannabis than they had a year earlier. That could mean people are looking for cheaper options but not giving up smoking.

Why is cannabis so expensive in the US?

You might think that since cannabis is legal there, prices should fall. But no – the 280E tax is to blame, which makes cannabis companies pay up to 80% of the tax . This is absurd, which means that prices in legal stores are often higher than on the black market.

For people in Poland it sounds like science fiction, because we are still waiting for decriminalization , and in the meantime in the US politicians are blocking changes that could make cannabis cheaper and more accessible. Obviously – pharmaceutical and alcohol lobbies, interests of large companies and the government, which wants to make the biggest profit from it.

How to save on cannabis?

There’s no hiding the fact that in Poland, smoking cannabis is a sport for the persistent. Not only is it still illegal, but prices on the black market vary, and quality doesn’t always match the cost. So if you want to spend less and still enjoy your weed, it’s worth taking a look at a few tried-and-true tricks for economical smoking.

Stronger strains – it’s better to buy something with higher THC and smoke less. If you have access to stronger strains, choose them and use smaller amounts. This will allow you to enjoy your stash longer.

Bongos instead of joints – less herb is wasted, and the effects are stronger and faster.

Edibles and vaporization – instead of burning THC, you can use it better. Vaporization is a much more efficient form of consumption than smoking.

Bulk purchases – if you have the option, buy a larger amount at once. It usually works out cheaper. If you buy cannabis in pharmacies, look for promotions and ask your doctor to write a prescription for discounted varieties with a shorter expiration date.

Your own cultivation (if the law allows) – although still illegal in Poland, it is worth following changes in regulations and buying marijuana seeds to be ready for the upcoming changes. It is possible that the cultivation of 1 plant will be decriminalized this or next year.

Vaporization – you use less, you save more

The best way to cut costs? Vaporization! With it, you can use up to 50-70% less cannabis, and the effect will be the same (or even better). Why? Because vaporizers do not burn THC , they just heat it to the ideal temperature, so more cannabinoids reach the body.
