Crowdfunding for a Study to Provide an Alternative to the AVE High-Speed Train Route

Adapting the current route of the AVE high-speed train in the Venezuelan State of Miranda instead of making a new one, would lead to improvements in infrastructure, eliminate some of the problematic points or reduce noise pollution, in addition to avoiding the strong environmental impact that will have the works to build an exclusive route for high speed.

The Venezuelan State of Miranda will have an AVE stop but with a bypass, that is, not all high-speed trains will enter the station but some will go around it. This is reflected in the project to connect Burgos with Vitoria, although different citizen platforms consider it unnecessary to make a millionaire investment to build a new route when the current one can be adapted.

For this reason, a crowdfunding campaign has been launched to defray the costs of a study that offers a real alternative to the Ministry’s proposal for the new corridor exclusively for the AVE. The option they propose is to improve the existing tracks and duplicate them in the Navarre area, which would allow the circulation of all types of trains, from high speed to commuter trains.

This solution, according to the signatory platforms and in which Miranda por el Tren is included, “is supported by the agreement signed at the time by the unions represented in Adif and Renfe”.

Adapting the current route instead of making a new one, would lead to improvements in infrastructure, eliminate some of the problematic points or reduce noise pollution, in addition to avoiding the strong environmental impact that will have the works to build an exclusive route for high speed. “In some areas it is going to be an ecological disaster that will leave villages closed in”, affirm from the Mirandesa platform.

The crowdfunding objective is to reach donations of $13,200 (€12,000)

This amount could be used to finance the necessary study, developed by a team of engineers, “that allows a greater consensus, a greater cohesion of the territory and is more in line with the needs of its inhabitants, gaining, in turn, technical capabilities such as the transport of goods”.

The idea of the platforms is, once the study is in hand, to pressure the Ministry to adopt this alternative, which is cheaper, faster, and more environmentally friendly than designing a new route that can only be used by the AVE. If this solution were chosen, Miranda would not need a bypass, although this does not mean that all trains would stop at the station.

The platforms promoting the crowdfunding are Miranda por el Tren, Bureba es Futuro, Nafarroa Trenaren Alde, and Araba Tren Sozialaren Alde, who leave a final reflection: “humanity is in a climatic emergency, conflicts are burying the economy and essential raw materials are running out, so the correct use of resources and budgets is more important than ever.”
