XRP vs. Litecoin: The Race for the Next Crypto ETF Heats Up

Following the Solana ETF debut, XRP and Litecoin are frontrunners for the next U.S. crypto ETF approvals. Bloomberg analysts give both a 95% chance, with Litecoin’s SEC deadline slightly earlier. The SEC is working on standardizing ETF approvals. A wave of altcoin ETFs, possibly including Dogecoin and Cardano, is expected in late 2025.

Following the debut of a Solana ETF, more crypto ETFs are expected to be approved in the US in the near future. Will it really be XRP (Ripple) – or could Litecoin (LTC) win the race ?

Crypto ETFs have become a hot topic, and the success of Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs in the US has sparked interest. The unofficial race to open the 2025 cycle was won this week by a Solana ETF , which got off to a respectable start with $12 million in capital inflows on its first day of trading. Now, experts and investors are grappling with the question of which altcoin will follow. Will it be XRP (Ripple) or Litecoin (LTC)? The trend seems to be heading towards this duel.

Litecoin could precede XRP as an ETF

Bloomberg specialists James Seyffart and Eric Balchunas, known for their accurate forecasts, recently gave XRP and Litecoin equal chances (95 percent) of receiving approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as ETFs this year on X.

Their ranking shows that the SEC deadline for Litecoin approval is October 2nd, slightly earlier than XRP’s (October 17th). On the Polymarket betting market , Litecoin also has a slight edge, with an 88 percent chance of an ETF in 2025, ahead of XRP (87 percent), although no specific launch date is available.

SEC seems to want to standardize approval of crypto ETFs

One reason why no quick decisions are to be expected from the SEC at the moment may be due to what renowned crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett reveals on X. Her sources at the SEC say that the agency is working on a standard for handling applications for crypto ETFs. Indicators such as market capitalization, trading volume, and liquidity could play a key role. If you invest these in XRP and Litecoin , there would be no way around Ripple’s cryptocurrency.

Conclusion: XRP ETFs and those for Litecoin in summer or only in autumn?

Terrett’s thesis is also supported by the fact that the crypto-mix ETF, which has already been approved by the SEC and includes Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, and Cardano, will still have to be put on hold . Seyffart and Balciunas from Bloomberg also believe that internal consultations at the SEC are quite possible in order to avoid case-by-case decisions on the topic of crypto ETFs.

In addition to XRP and Litecoin, they see five other altcoins in the ETF starting blocks: Dogecoin , Cardano, Polkadot, Hedera (HBAR), and Avalanche, each with a 90 percent chance of approval in 2025, according to the Bloomberg forecast. According to Seyffart, a “wave of new ETFs” is imminent in the second half of 2025 – but he isn’t yet ready to predict whether the one led by XRP and Litecoin will arrive in the summer or not until the fall.
