Fez-Meknes Launches Health Tourism Drive with Focus on Thermal Springs
The Fez-Meknes region is prioritizing health tourism, highlighting its thermal springs through the first Regional Forum on Health Tourism (April 10–12). Backed by regional and national partners, the event promotes wellness tourism and investment. Key sites include Moulay Yacoub, Skhounat, Ain Salama, and Ain Allah, offering therapeutic waters and eco-tourism experiences to boost regional appeal.

The Fez-Meknes region is focusing part of its tourism development strategy on the health tourism sector, with a focus on its thermal resources. This focus is being realized through the organization of the first Regional Forum on Health Tourism, which will be held from April 10 to April 12 under the theme “Thermal Waters of the Fez-Meknes Region: Health and Tourism.”
This initiative is part of a partnership agreement involving the Ministry of Tourism, Crafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, the wilaya, and the Regional Council. It also falls within the implementation of the 2024-2026 regional strategic roadmap for the Fez-Meknes tourism.
The organization of this forum is ensured by the Regional Council, in collaboration with the wilaya, the province of Moulay Yacoub, the Euro-Mediterranean University (UEMF) and the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) Fez-Meknes.
The stated objective of this event is to promote the region’s natural assets, particularly its thermal springs, in order to position it in the health and wellness tourism market. The aim is to develop a tourism offering that takes into account the specific cultural, heritage, environmental, and historical features of the Fez-Meknes region.
The choice to dedicate this first edition to thermal tourism is based on the analysis of the potential of this sector to stimulate tourist activity and encourage investment in existing resorts as well as the associated opportunities.
The new strategy in Fez-Meknes: A program focused on development and expertise
The three-day forum will feature a program structured around several themes. Presentations will be made by partners from the public and private sectors regarding projects and programs aimed at developing the sector and improving its indicators in the Fez-Meknes region.
At the same time, scientific seminars are planned, with the participation of experts and academics specializing in the development and promotion of health tourism, both in Morocco and internationally. These sessions aim to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experiences, including those related to the development of the thermal sector in the Fez-Meknes region.
Fez-Meknes is home to several sites with potential for the development of health tourism, the most famous of which is Moulay Yacoub. Its thermal water, located at a depth of 1,500 meters, emerges at 54°C before being brought to a working temperature of 38°C. Recognized for its mineral richness, it is used in dermatological and rheumatological treatments as well as for functional rehabilitation and muscle relaxation.
In the province of Boulemane, in the heart of the Middle Atlas (commune of Ait Laman), lies the Skhounat Thermal Bath, whose hot, sulfurous waters are used for relaxation. Locally, they are reputed to be beneficial for certain kidney and skin conditions. A unique feature of this site is that its waters are considered potable. Its natural environment also contributes to its appeal.
Not far from Meknes, Ain Salama is a tourist complex focused on ecology. It offers various thermal facilities (individual baths, showers, swimming pools) complemented by catering and accommodation services, including traditional tents. The complex is located in a natural forest setting, sheltered from urban pollution.
According to available analyses, its mineral waters would be suitable for consumption and bathing, and could be used for various conditions (skin, kidney, digestive, in particular).
Finally, the Ain Allah spa, located near Fez (commune of Sebaâ Rouadi), is equipped with modern facilities including swimming pools, hammams, baths, and rehabilitation rooms. Its waters emit steam and are characterized by a high temperature. They are, in particular, used in protocols related to slimming and improving skin texture.
