How Crowdfunding Doubled Mittelstetten Fire Department’s Safety Equipment Fund

The Mittelstetten fire department raised €20,000—double their goal—through crowdfunding for additional equipment for their new personnel transport vehicle. Donations from citizens and businesses, including a child’s contribution, funded safety enhancements. The vehicle will improve emergency response, reduce reliance on private cars, and support youth programs. The department expressed gratitude for the community’s generosity.

A crowdfunding campaign was launched by the fired epartment to raise money for a new car. The new vehicle is being delivered to the Mittelstetten fire department in the next few days. The municipality is paying for the purchase and the basic equipment with radio system and blue lights.

In addition, the fire department wants to install functional shelves and an early warning system on the roof that uses LED displays to alert other road users to accident sites. This is particularly important for operations on the B2.

The hope of raising 10,000 euros through crowdfunding has been more than fulfilled by teh fire department

The crowdfunding campaign in cooperation with Volksbank Fürstenfeldbruck brought in 20,000 euros. In addition, the fire brigade association will tax another 5,000 euros.

The fire department was delighted by the generosity of its fellow citizens. Hundreds of people and almost 20 companies donated money – from double-digit amounts to large donations.

“Even a child donated five euros from his savings,” said Vice Commander Johannes Lais. “The father rounded the amount up.” The majority of the donors live in Mittelstetten or the immediate surrounding area. But an Augsburg resident who had been helped by the fire department in an accident also contributed a sum.

The new vehicle will primarily be used to transport personnel and equipment. It has space for seven people. The loading area can be enlarged in a few simple steps if necessary, the fire department said.

Thanks to the new purchase, the active members’ private cars no longer have to be used for errands and exploration, trips to training courses and to the respiratory protection workshop. The vehicle will also be used for youth and club work and by the Tegernbach fire department.

“The whole thing was a good thing,” Lais concluded. In a letter that will appear in the next community newsletter, the fire department thanks all donors. “You are helping us to ensure even more safety for you and to make our volunteer work even safer,” it said.

The vehicle will also take the active members to the scene of the incident. So far, the fire department only has one fire engine with nine seats. If more personnel are needed, the comrades have to drive to the scene of the incident in their own cars, which is problematic for insurance reasons.

In the coming weeks, the personnel carrier will be fitted with additional equipment at a conversion company in Landsberg. It is scheduled to go into service in March.
