Inter IKEA Launches Electric Truck Fleet to Decarbonize Heavy-Duty Logistics in Italy

Inter IKEA, LC3 Trasporti, and Mercedes-Benz Trucks launched electric heavy-duty transport in Italy using eActros 600 vehicles. The fleet will exceed ten trucks by 2026, covering over 1.2 million zero-emission kilometers annually. The project targets logistics decarbonization, lower costs, and quieter deliveries between ports, hubs, and Northern Italy stores, improving environmental and community outcomes.

In partnership with LC3 Trasporti and Mercedes-Benz Trucks, Inter IKEA Group is launching a fleet of electric trucks to decarbonize heavy-duty transport between ports, logistics hubs, and stores.

Inter IKEA Group has launched its first fully electric heavy-duty transport project in Italy . The initiative, carried out in partnership with LC3 Trasporti and Mercedes-Benz Trucks, aims to sustainably transform a segment of the supply chain that has traditionally been difficult to achieve zero emissions.

The project, officially launched last October, is based on the use of Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric trucks for daily container movements between the ports of Genoa and La Spezia and the logistics center in Piacenza, as well as deliveries to sales outlets in Northern Italy. Inter Ikea’s fleet will start with five BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) vehicles already in operation and will grow to over ten units by the third quarter of 2026 , with the goal of traveling more than 1.2 million kilometers per year with zero CO₂ emissions.

Inter IKEA’s breakthrough is part of a broader energy transition: the transport sector represents one of the most complex issues in achieving Europe’s climate goals, where decarbonizing heavy-duty fleets remains a technological and economic challenge. By integrating next-generation electric technologies, the partnership aims to reduce not only the environmental impact but also overall operating costs along the logistics chain.

Furthermore, the introduction of these new electric vehicles in Inter Ikea’s fleet, also guarantees zero noise emissions, a particularly significant advantage for night-time delivery operations to stores, capable of ensuring a significant improvement in the quality of life of local communities and the reduction of noise pollution in urban areas.

“This is an ambitious project, aimed at significantly reducing the carbon footprint of our transport in Italy. Thanks to this new triangular partnership, we can jointly define the optimal configuration and develop a solution that reduces overall costs while contributing to a cleaner, quieter environment—a key element of our mission to create a better everyday life,” said Ewelina Taylor, Global Transport Manager at Inter IKEA Group.
