ITA Airways takes a decisive step in its ESG strategy by publishing its first sustainability report, relating to the 2024 financial year. At a time when the aviation sector is called upon to demonstrate the impact of its operations with ever greater transparency, the company chooses to voluntarily anticipate European requirements, confirming a solid commitment to decarbonisation, responsible innovation and sustainable governance.

The document was drafted adopting the European ESRS (European Sustainability Reporting Standards) principles, set out in EU Directive 2022/2464 CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), introduced with the aim of standardizing sustainability reporting by ensuring transparency and comparability of ESG information among European companies.

Sandro Pappalardo, President of ITA Airways, highlights the company’s role as “an active part of the sector’s sustainable transition, placing innovation, respect for the environment, the valorization of people and good governance at the heart of its strategy.”

ITA Airways to Renew its Fleet in 2024

Joerg Eberhart, CEO and General Manager of ITA Airways, presented the 2024 reporting as “a transparent navigation tool, which allows us to orient ourselves along an increasingly sustainable path.”

The document outlines the integration of sustainability into ITA Airways’ business model, a strategic pillar of the company’s industrial plan, and the main results achieved as of December 31st, 2024.

Among these is the fleet renewal plan:

average age of 6.6 years (among the youngest in Europe);

65% new-generation aircraft, which allows for a 20-25% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the previous generation;

74% of aircraft certified to Chapter 14 (most stringent noise reduction level according to ICAO standards).

This renewal plan allows the company to achieve significant goals. Thanks to the effectiveness of the efficiency strategies implemented, a 22.8% reduction in CO2/RPK (grams of CO2 per Revenue Passenger Kilometer) emissions was recorded compared to 2022.

The sustainability report, complete with all the results and commitments made by the company for 2024, is available online in the dedicated section on the official ITA Airways website.
