Itelyum Enters the Chemical Plastic Recycling Market

The chemical recycling process developed by Plasta Rei allows Itelyum to recover over 95% of the PET used, significantly contributing to the reduction of CO 2 emissions compared to non-recycled material. This initiative not only reflects Itelyum’s commitment to environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility (ESG), but also promises to generate attractive economic returns on investment.

Itelyum

Itelyum move aligns perfectly with the objectives of the European Green Deal, the Circular Economy Action Plan and the voluntary decarbonisation initiatives promoted by major companies in the plastics sector.

In Cisterna di Latina , Itelyum and Plasta Rei are building an advanced chemical recycling plant for PET, mainly derived from food packaging, with the ambition of producing 100% recycled PET granules . This product, of comparable quality to virgin PET , stands out for its ability to be recycled infinite times without degrading, unlike what happens with mechanical recycling. Thanks to Plasta Rei’s innovative technology, recycled PET will find use in the food packaging industry, favoring a sustainable bottle-to-bottle process.

Itelyum – a portfolio company of Stirling Square Capital Partners LLP with the participation of Deutsche Beteiligungs AG – pools process chemistry know-how and leverages synergies with the rest of the group at both an operational and R&D level , creating the foundations for the growth of a new business area.

“The positioning of Itelyum in the plastic recycling market – declares the CEO and General Director of Itelyum Marco Codognola – is our new challenge that we face, like all our Business Development operations, aware of our technological capabilities, the solidity of the our Group and with the desire to pursue sustainable development objectives. We have identified the entry into the capital of Plasta Rei as a significant opportunity on the Italian market for the growth of the Group, with important prospects also outside Italy for further projects.”

“The entry of a prestigious and highly valuable player, such as Itelyum, into the capital of Plasta Rei, testifies to the validity of the project and the reconversion and innovation path undertaken and shared with the Trade Unions, Prefecture, Region, Province and Municipality. We are also particularly pleased with the outcome of the Services Conference held yesterday where the positive opinions of the bodies involved were gathered. We trust that with the necessary technical time the consequent authorizations will be drawn up and the PAUR will be issued. We thank all the institutions for the constructive approach, which allows us to achieve the objectives of a project with profiles of great interest for the territory. A heartfelt thanks to the management and all the workers at Plasta Rei who are making a piece of history in the recovery and valorisation of plastic while respecting the environment” – declared Francesco Borgomeo, President and Partner of Plasta Rei.

With advanced skills and technologies, Itelyum offers sustainable processes, products and solutions for the management of waste and its transformation into resources.

Sixty years of industrial history built on the principles of the circular economy even before this became the economy of the future, involving customers, suppliers, institutions, local and global communities in the creation of economic, environmental and social value.

Itelyum has three business lines:

Itelyum Regeneration

Regeneration is the treatment system that best exploits the collected used lubricating oil, with significant benefits compared to the production of virgin bases. In fact, it extends the life cycle of lubricants, thanks to advanced technological processes that give life to quality regenerated bases and other products to be reintroduced into cycles of use in industry and transport.

Itelyum Purification

The purification of wastewater from the chemical and pharmaceutical industries engineers products for different uses; while the solvents from the distillation of virgin oil fractions, produced and marketed, and the synthetic starting materials enrich the offer for the companies from which the wastewater to be exploited is collected.

Itelyum Environment

It groups together, controls and coordinates 26 companies located throughout Italy that responsibly manage over 1,500,000 t/a of industrial waste, of which 500,000 t/a handling and services, including in the port area.
