Livall is launching a crowdfunding campaign for the PikaBoost 2, an aftermarket e-bike motor that can be mounted on bikes in minutes. Early backers will even have the opportunity to purchase the motor at a discounted price.

Livall’s new motor: Up to 500 watts maximum power

The PikaBoost 2 can be mounted on bicycles without a luggage rack or mudguards. The motor is attached directly to the seat post and, according to Livall, is compatible with most common tire types, whether for city, mountain or racing bikes. The motor weighs just three kilograms and delivers a continuous output of 250 watts and a maximum output of 500 watts.

According to Livall, the manufacturer, the maximum speed that can be reached with the motor is 32 km/h, but this can vary by country. This is bad news for German buyers, as this speed would not be permitted for an e-bike that does not require registration – only with a limit of 25 km/h. There is also the question of whether the motor can also drive the bike without manual pedaling.

The new Livall bike will have 96 kilometers range

The motor is charged via USB-C and can recover energy while driving through recuperation. The integrated battery can also be used as a power bank and can charge mobile devices with up to 100 watts. Depending on the model variant selected, the battery capacity is either 158 or 220 Wh , which should enable a range of 70 to 96 kilometers.

Intelligent functions and security features

The Livall PikaBoost 2 has several intelligent functions. For example, the system detects when the tires are spinning and stops the motor to improve grip. If you fall, the motor is automatically switched off. In addition, the workout mode offers more resistance when riding, and an integrated rear light ensures better visibility in traffic.

E-bike motor now available

The PikaBoost 2 can now be purchased as part of the crowdfunding campaign for 252 euros . Delivery is already planned for September, which suggests that this is more of a pre-order campaign than a classic crowdfunding project. The retrofit motor should normally cost around 315 euros.
