PausePay, an Italian fintech startup active in the Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) sector for businesses, founded in 2022 by Luca Scali, also founder of the CashInvoice platform, specialized in financing for SMEs, has signed an agreement with the digital payments giant VISA: the collaboration will allow customers to access a deferred payment system through a new business credit card model managed by PausePay and issued by VISA.

PausePay was the first BNPL solution in Italy dedicated to the business segment

Users of the BNPL PausePay service, which was developed in collaboration with Allianz Trade, a credit insurance giant that manages the entire credit assessment process, will therefore be able to defer payments quickly and easily, leveraging the global coverage of the VISA network, which on average invests 2 billion dollars every year to evolve the integrity and resilience of its network through artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Stefano M. Stoppani, country manager Visa Italia, commented: “This partnership confirms Visa’s constant commitment to digital payments innovation and the enhancement of the Italian fintech ecosystem. We are happy to make the benefits offered by our global network available to PausePay customers to better direct the value that this model is able to provide to businesses in our country.”

And Luca Scali, CEO of PausePay, added: “We are proud to collaborate with VISA to launch a solution that will innovate the way business customers can manage their purchases. This partnership combines our innovative BNPL platform with VISA’s experience, creating a totally innovative and once again first mover product, which perfectly meets the needs of our customers.”

PausePay was the first BNPL solution in Italy dedicated to the business segment, then followed by Opyn , another fintech lending platform for SMEs. The market opportunity seems very large. The online B2B transaction market in Europe is growing rapidly: with an estimated value of $1.84 trillion in 2021, it is expected to reach $11.26 trillion by 2030, with a CAGR of 22.3%.

PausePay was created as a project within CashInvoice, a fintech startup by Luca Scali, who then, together with his partners Daniele Fani and Giovanna Arcangeli , decided to transform it into a separate company, which now aims to grow independently and which, according to what BeBeez has learned , plans to raise a first seed round from investors of at least one million euros, between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025 .

In 2023 CashInvoice originated 880 million euros of credit, of which 250 million were disbursed through the fintech platform in the form of invoice trading, reverse factoring, tax credit transfer and Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) dedicated to businesses, thanks to relationships with many sellers, including over a hundred large corporations, including multinationals.

CashInvoice, in spring 2023, had secured a 500 million euro business financing program from Fasanara Capital and as part of that agreement had sold 10% of the capital to Fasanara. To date, Scali, thanks to many years of experience with CashInvoice, has decided to focus on the new business with new strategic partners and new investors for funding support.
