The Ponte Piccolo is Restored Thanks to Crowdfunding

The financing of 250,000 euros was made possible thanks to a fundraising campaign via a solidarity toll-free number. During the restoration work, the two masonry steps, heavily eroded over time, were rebuilt and the metal structure that crosses the canal was restored. Construction of ramps is expected to begin shortly to allow access for disabled users.

Ponte Piccolo

The intense rains have unfortunately limited the opportunity for residents of the area to fully enjoy the new Ponte Piccolo, which opened only two days ago.

However, looking to the future, more peaceful times await in which Giudecchi will finally be able to fully appreciate this new structure that the high tide of 2019 had put in danger.

The Ponte Piccolo and its rebirth

The Ponte Piccolo, recently inaugurated, represents a fundamental point for pedestrian traffic along a stretch of the foundations of the Giudecca canal, connecting the Molino Stucky to the Redentore church. This restoration, carried out with the aim of returning the structure to “How it was and where it was,” also brought to light the magnificent La Fenice Theatre. The financing of 250,000 euros was made possible thanks to a fundraising campaign via a solidarity toll-free number.

New ramps for the Giudecca bridges

Furthermore, starting tomorrow we will proceed with the removal of the existing ramps on the Arsenale Bridge to replace them with new, more functional and design ramps. This intervention is not scheduled until April 19th, barring unforeseen events, and will make the Arsenale bridge similar to structures already present along the Riva degli Schiavoni, such as the Vin, della Pietà, San Sepolcro and Ca di Dio bridges.

In this way, the aim is not only to restore the functionality of the bridges, such as the Ponte Piccolo bridge, but also to make them more aesthetically pleasing and accessible to all, in line with the objective of eliminating architectural barriers along the Giudecca canal.
