StartCup 2023 Startups Will Have a Guarantee of 250k for Investors in their Rounds on Opstart

StartCup 2023 finalists and semi-finalists opting for equity crowdfunding on Opstart can secure up to €250,000 per startup through a guarantee from Finlombarda, covering 50% of potential losses on investor capital. This initiative, part of Lombardy Region’s SME support measures, aims to bolster startups’ access to risk capital. Winners include Monimeds, RarEarth, Simba, and Displaid.

The finalist and semi-finalist start-ups of StartCup 2023 who decide to carry out an equity crowdfunding campaign on Opstart will be able to obtain a guarantee for a maximum guaranteed amount per start-up of €250,000 to partially cover the equity investments made by the investors.

The guarantee is granted by Finlombarda free of charge and will cover 50% of the amount of each loss on the risk capital investment.

This is an initiative of the Lombardy Region which intends to facilitate the raising of risk capital by the finalist and semi-finalist start-ups of StartCup 2023 through equity crowdfunding.

An initiative that is part of the package of measures to support the development of SMEs and startups prepared last year by the Directorate for Economic Development of the Lombardy Region, led by councilor Guido Guidesi.

The winning startups of the StartCup 2023

The winners of the StartCup 2023, referring to the four competing categories – ICT & Services, CleanTech & Energy, Life Sciences & MedTech and Industrial Technologies – were announced at the end of 2023 and had obtained a financial contribution of 25 thousand euros each to support their development and access to the National Innovation Award.

In detail it was:

Monimeds (ICT & Services), of the Polytechnic of Milan, aimed at identifying a support and monitoring system in the healthcare sector to predict failures of various devices;

RarEarth (CleanTech & Energy), by Polihub, dedicated to the recovery of rare earths contained in magnets, thus paving the way for a sustainable future and a more independent Europe;

Simba (Life Sciences & MedTech), of the University of Milan, project for the study and treatment of cerebral stroke and its risk factors;

Displaid (Industrial Technologies), of the Polytechnic of Milan, a project that proposes an AI-based monitoring service that optimizes the management of the infrastructure network by enabling predictive maintenance.

Besides the StartCup 2023 winners, other startups will be able to access the initiative

These companies are joined by the winners of the Special Awards, dedicated to Social Impact and Sustainability, namely PCART , Visioning and Vagusflex.

In addition to these, based on the residual availability of the guarantee fund, access to the benefit will also be guaranteed to the other finalists and semi-finalists, according to the order of scores assigned in the semi-final.

The expression of interest in participating in the initiative must be submitted electronically by July 2nd.
