Swisspower Renewables Has Invested in Three Photovoltaic Projects in Italy, with a Total Capacity of 19.5 MW
Swisspower Renewables Group invested in three photovoltaic projects in Italy with a total capacity of 19.5 MW, aligning with their strategy to expand in Italy. This move follows the appointment of new CEO Lars Hieke. Swisspower, founded in 2011, focuses on renewable energy, particularly in Italy and Germany, with significant investments in hydroelectric, wind, and photovoltaic projects.
The Swisspower Renewables Group has invested in the construction of three photovoltaic projects in Italy, with a total capacity of 19.5 MW, remaining faithful to the business development strategy in the Bel Paese announced at the beginning of July, when the new CEO, Lars Hieke , took over at the helm of the company, replacing Felix Meier , who had held that role for 12 years.
The group was founded in 2011 by the municipal companies of Swisspower and today manages a large portfolio of plants and projects with a particular focus on Italy and Germany and, at a European level, specializes in onshore wind, hydroelectric and photovoltaic.
This latest Italian investment is the result of a dual strategy that includes, on the one hand, the expansion of the portfolio of renewable energy used in our country and, on the other, further investments in Italy, where there are already under construction, or ready to be built, photovoltaic projects with a capacity greater than 32 MW.
Swisspower has acquired 36 hydroelectric power plants in Italy
“The investment in photovoltaic projects is an important step for us to further expand our presence in the Italian market and underlines our expertise in the development of ready-to-build projects,” said Hieke . “The activities in project development enable us to sustainably secure the profitability of the projects and to continue to grow in the future.”
For the group, strengthening its activities in Italy is an important factor in consolidating its position as an independent operator of sustainable energy production plants, which will also bring benefits to Swisspower Rinnovabili Italia , the company wholly owned by Swisspower Renewables AG which has been operating in the peninsula since 2015 and is led by Gabriele Gatti and Lorenzo Grazietti , both managing directors.
In this decade, Swisspower has acquired 36 hydroelectric power plants, distributed in particular between the regions of Northern Italy (Veneto, Lombardy, Emilia Romagna and Piedmont) and 3 wind farms , for a total of 24 turbines, between Campania and Basilicata, for a total installed power of approximately 110 MW.
In 2021, the acquisition of a hydroelectric portfolio of 23 plants, for a total capacity of approximately 46.5 MW, was financed through a loan of 58.1 million euros that Swisspower had obtained from Intesa Sanpaolo and Banco Bpm.
