To Be Launches a Crowdfunding Campaign on Mamacrowd

To Be already boasts strategic and commercial partnerships and collaborations with industry leaders such as Signify (formerly Philips Lighting), multinationals in the TLC sector, and System Integrators. LiFi Zone, unlike traditional navigation tools that rely on Bluetooth or GPS that have error margins in the order of meters, can err by a few centimeters at most.

To Be, an innovative Italian SME specializing in the development of LiFi solutions, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Mamacrowd to develop LiFi Zone®, a platform for services based on data transmission through LED light. The main objective of the capital raise is to accelerate the company’s growth, improve existing services on the platform, and accelerate the development of new features to enrich the offering.

Less than two weeks after the campaign opened, To Be has exceeded its minimum goal of €350,000, raising €600,000. Believing in the initiative to date have been 81 investors including the AZIMUT ELITF – Venture Capital ALIcrowd III fund.

To Be is now aiming for the maximum goal of €900,000 to further develop the LiFi Zone® platform, which is already revolutionizing the indoor navigation experience for large areas such as museums, hospitals, and retail settings.

“The crowdfunding campaign opens the door to a new level of communication between the physical (the user) and the digital (the data), and the LiFi Zone project is just the first piece of our growth plan. With it we offer a sustainable, fast and above all socially useful solution in different sectors, both in the public and corporate worlds,” said Francesco Paolo Russo, Founder & CEO of To Be.

About To Be

Established in 2016 from Francesco Paolo Russo’s vision of making every light a source of information and Raniero Pani’s 20 years of experience in the lighting and home automation sector, the company already boasts strategic and commercial partnerships and collaborations with industry leaders such as Signify (formerly Philips Lighting), multinationals in the TLC sector, and System Integrators.

It develops LiFi technology solutions, a wireless system that transmits data and information using light waves emitted by LED light instead of radio waves.

The goal is to meet the growing demand for data traffic and to drive the telecommunications transition to fast, secure and sustainable connectivity that can be integrated with lighting systems that reduce energy consumption.

The company was awarded €75,000 in a pre-seed round from Magic Spectrum, an accelerator dedicated to connectivity in the CDP Cassa Depositi e Prestiti National Network of Accelerators, managed by Digital Magics, in addition to obtaining public grant funding of about €266,000.

With its more than 200 active LiFi points among museums, hospitals, schools and offices, To Be has achieved important national milestones such as the installation of LiFi Zone® in Pompeii, thus transforming it into the first archaeological site equipped with LiFi technology, or the Asl Napoli 2 Nord, with the first LiFi hospitals in Italy and Europe, or the Istituto Comprensivo Rosetta Rossi in Rome, the first LiFi school in Italy, and subsequently some schools in Camerino, Macerata, Pollenza and San Severino Marche.

How LiFi Zone® works

LiFi Zone is based on a cloud infrastructure, capable of scaling rapidly, allowing remote access at any time to manage and monitor all the features associated with LiFi light points at different sites of interest.

The architecture of the solution involves a software component, i.e., an app (which can also be integrated into third-party solutions) developed specifically to enable devices to receive the signal, and the installation of a hardware component, i.e., LED lighting bodies equipped with a special LiFi modulator thanks to which the same light that illuminates a room conveys information directly to people’s smartphones.

Due to its innovative data transmission characteristics, this is a technology that finds application in the most diverse environments: museums, archaeological parks, schools, hospitals, retals, offices, places sensitive to radio waves and from the perspective of Cyber Security.

In fact, LiFi can function not only as a wireless connectivity system as if it were WiFi but via light, but also as an indoor navigation system in which the user, moving under the various light cones from lamps, receives timely information and is able to be guided along a path.

LiFi Zone, unlike traditional navigation tools that rely on Bluetooth or GPS that have error margins in the order of meters, can err by a few centimeters at most.
