Intesa Sanpaolo provided €10M to Unicalce for sustainability-focused investments in decarbonization and digitization. Unicalce, Italy’s top lime producer, operates 13 plants with a 2M-ton capacity. New financing operation for Intesa Sanpaolo, which has disbursed 10 million euros to Unicalce, the main Italian producer of calcic lime, dolomitic lime and derivative products, after having disbursed 50 million euros five days before Christmas to Aboca Spa Società Agricola, an Italian healthcare company that produces 100% natural products for health care.
In that case, it was a loan granted with SACE’s Future Guarantee, while in the case of Unicalce, the operation falls into the S-Loan category, which includes loans designed to support companies’ efforts towards greater sustainability from an environmental, social and governance perspective, the banking institution explained.
The Unicalce group is the leading group in Italy and among the top five in Europe for the production of lime, explains the company, and is controlled by the Italian Dolomite Colombo spa. The company includes in its corporate structure the multinational Carmeuse Holding sa, which is based in Luxembourg and is one of the largest lime producers in the world.

Dolomite owns 54.31% of the company while Carmeuse owns 45.66%. However, Dolomite is controlled 50% by Carmeuse and the other half by Fin. Ind. Gest. srl, whose capital is owned by Luigi and Giulio Gnecchi, members of one of the families that started the company in the first half of the 1900s.
The company operates in the sector of extraction and processing of carbonates for the production of aggregates and for the production of lime. In addition, there are construction products under the Premier brand.
Unicalce has 13 active production plants in Italy and stakes in other companies in the sector both in Italy and abroad , with a production capacity reaching 2 million tons of lime. In 2023, the company generated 201.1 million euros in revenues with 42.9 million in EBITDA, and 2.3 million in net liquidity.

“This financing supports Unicalce in the development of an efficient circular economy model capable of guaranteeing virtuous energy management and low environmental impact,” added Daniele Pastore, regional director of Lombardy North Intesa Sanpaolo.
“For our companies, sustainability is an essential asset and Intesa Sanpaolo provides all the resources and tools necessary to support their development plans aimed at seizing current and long-term opportunities.
