Verdalia Acquires Five Biomethane Plants in Northern Italy
Verdalia Bioenergy, backed by Goldman Sachs, acquired five greenfield biomethane plants in Italy from Green Arrow Capital and Lazzari & Lucchini. These plants, expected to be operational by 2025, will process agricultural and animal waste to produce 170 GWh of biomethane annually, reducing 50,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening Verdalia’s European biomethane footprint.
Verdalia Bioenergy, a European biomethane company supported by Goldman Sachs Alternatives infrastructure funds, has reached an agreement for the acquisition of 5 greenfield biomethane plants in Italy from funds controlled by Green Arrow Capital, one of the leading independent Italian operators in the alternative investment landscape, and by Lazzari&Lucchini, a company specialized in energy production.
The transaction follows Verdalia’s recent acquisitions of 7 plants operational in May 2024 and 4 greenfield projects in August 2024 in neighboring areas of Northern Italy
Launched in February 2023 with the aim of investing at least €1 billion in the development, acquisition and operation of biomethane production plants in Europe by 2026, Verdalia Bioenergy has made significant progress in Italy, becoming one of the leading operators in the field of agricultural biomethane plants, with a team of over 90 people between Spain and Italy and a pipeline of projects under development of over 2.5 TWh per year.
The portfolio consists of 5 plants in an advanced stage of development and located in Lombardy and Veneto, with an overall expected production capacity of approximately 170 GW per year of biomethane deriving from the treatment of 250,000 tons of raw materials per year. The plants are scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2025, with biomethane production coming exclusively from the processing of animal waste and agricultural waste not intended for human consumption.
The plants acquired by Verdalia are scheduled to be operational by the end of 2025, with biomethane production coming from the processing of animal waste and agricultural waste not intended for human consumption. The portfolio, once operational, will have the goal of reducing the equivalent of 50,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year.
