The Barock sign on the former factory site of the ink manufacturer on Emilienstraße in Kaditz is to be restored to its former glory. The neon sign from 1957 is in danger of falling into disrepair.

The two-meter-high and 9.50-meter-wide lettering needs extensive restoration, Torsten Meisel and Benjamin Venter, who run the Barock Eventpark on Emilienstraße, have determined. They want to raise an estimated €15,000 for the restoration with a crowdfunding campaign.

Gunther Lange, managing director of the Dresden-based ink manufacturer Octopus Fluids GmbH & Co. KG, has a close ally in this effort.

The two companies had agreed in August of this year to share the “Barock” brand

“The basic structure is made of strong steel and is to be retained, but the neon tubes will have to be replaced. Under EU law, these may continue to be used, as the lettering is a cultural asset,” informed the operators of the Barock Event Park.

In order to offer possible donors a donation of €40 also an equivalent value, these receive with successful collection depending upon donation height coupons for the baroque Eventpark, baroque ink barrels, fountain pens, or also private guidance by the ink factory. If the collection goal of €15,000 is not reached, the amounts paid in will be refunded.

“We have already set up the first display cases with exhibits in the stairwell of the Barock Event Park – as a start for a small Baroque museum. The lettering on the roof simply belongs,” said Meisel and Venter. They are convinced that the donations will be collected by Christmas.

The Ostsächsische Sparkasse Dresden is setting a good example and has pledged a start-up contribution of €1,000 because of the importance of the regional project.
