Overwatch World Cup 2019 budget cut means that only the top 10 countries in the world ranking will have all their expenses paid in order to assist to Blizzcon. Teams such as the Spanish selection had to find their own funding to participate in the previous qualifier. And although the team has been preparing for two months, until now it has not been possible to guarantee its attendance.
Furia Roja left without financial support
The team was left without the financial support of their sponsor, that the national committee agreed and had to resort to other means to achieve the minimum money. But thanks to their fans they will be participating in the competition.
For instance, try to achieve just enough to pay the ticket of the six members, as explained in this message. They set the goal: to raise about 7,000 euros through various formulas, such as PayPal donations, GoFundMe crowdfunding and solidarity streams.
Blizzard and the budget problem
The response was so positive that, in half of the days planned, the achieved 5,500 euros. That guaranteed them the ticket cost for the trip, since Blizzard does take care of the stay there. And this weekend the confirmation has arrived. The Spanish Overwatch team already has its tickets to California.
At the moment we do not have the calendar to know exactly what will be happening from now on, nor how many non-funded countries have confirmed their presence at Blizzcon, but there are only 12 days left for the fair to start, so we should have news very soon. Only the top five teams of the ranking will enter directly into the group phase of Overwatch World Cup 2019.
