GoFundMe Shows Inflation Did Not Affect Donations in Crowdfunding Campaigns

The social crowdfunding company, GoFundMe, has taken stock of the year highlighting that in Spain more than 140,000 donations have been registered on its fundraising platform during 2022. According to its data, the most generous city in Spain is Madrid, while Barcelona ranks second followed by Valencia, Palma de Mallorca, and Seville. Worldwide, 26 million people initiated or donated to a fundraising campaign this year.

Globally in 2022, $145 million was raised in campaigns alone for humanitarian aid in and around Ukraine thanks to more than 1.2 million donations. Despite the difficult economic year with the effects of the pandemic, inflation, and recession, there has been room for solidarity and the company says that there has been one donation per second to help people around the world.

Outstanding campaigns on GoFundMe

One of the most outstanding campaigns of the year in Spain was the one launched by Miquel Àngel Junior on behalf of the Kione Resorts accommodation chain, thanks to which he provided accommodation and work for 110 Ukrainians, including 18 minors.

Christmas, a time of great solidarity

During the Christmas season, solidarity is shown to the little ones. GoFundMe highlights the campaigns aimed at acquiring toys so that no child is left without a gift. The IRES Foundation they have started a crowdfunding campaign to give toys to children in vulnerable situations. “In 2020 and 2021 we achieved that 314 children had their toy on Three Kings Day and this year we ask for your support to achieve it again,” they say from the campaign.

Any person, association, or business can start a fundraising campaign. This has been the case of McCarthy’s pub located in Corralejo (Fuerteventura), which is asking for support to buy toys for the neediest children of the place and collect Christmas songs with artists who usually play in the local.

“Please help me to help you,” with this claim Raúl Zapico is also asking for help, from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, to collaborate with an organization in Cape Verde and buy both school supplies and Christmas gifts for the neediest children.
