The Inflabi Bicycle Helmet Explodes Counters on Indiegogo

To be legally marketed as a bicycle helmet in Europe and in countries that apply European standards, the Inflabi must be EN1078 certified. To guarantee the success of conformity tests, the manufacturer works on its structure in order to effectively meet the requirements. The German company believes that its product should provide a significantly higher level of protection than that required by the agencies.

Although wearing a helmet is strongly recommended when cycling to reduce the risk of head injuries in the event of a fall or collision, it must be admitted that this equipment can be particularly cumbersome. Intended for cyclists, but also for users of scooters, skateboards, hoverboards and all those who use urban mobility solutions, Inflabi presents itself as a more practical alternative to traditional protective equipment.

Developed by a German startup, this revolutionary inflatable helmet can easily be stored in a jacket or jacket when folded. Currently in a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, it has already raised more than €23,700 at the time of writing this article.

A compact and easy-to-use headset

The Inflabi is made up of several air cushions designed to absorb shock in the event of an accident. To wear this helmet, the cyclist must inflate it using a pump equipped with a pressure gauge, until reaching a pressure of two bars. This operation can last between 20 to 45 seconds, depending on the manufacturer.

Once their journey is finished or at the end of their day, the user can deflate it, by twisting and pressing its valve, then fold it up so they can be stored in a pocket or small backpack. For information, once deflated, the Inflabi is four times more compact than traditional helmets . The model offered during the product launch covers two sizes, namely M and L.

A helmet guaranteeing excellent protection

Contrary to what one might think, an inflatable helmet does not offer a lower level of safety than a classic EPS model. Made from laminated polyamide fabric with a TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) membrane, the Inflabi offers its wearer a level of protection four times higher than conventional equipment, according to the manufacturer.

The materials that make it up also give it great resistance to abrasion, tearing and perforation , as well as excellent breathability and waterproofing. This equipment therefore protects not only from head injuries caused by possible accidents, but also from heat and rain.

The Inflabi helmet currently being certified

To be legally marketed as a bicycle helmet in Europe and in countries that apply European standards, the Inflabi must be EN1078 certified. In order to guarantee the success of conformity tests, the manufacturer works on its structure in order to effectively meet the requirements of the certifying bodies.

Regarding the material that makes up the helmet, it plans to move to a weight of 390 g/m², if the current weight (275 g/m²) is considered too low. Regardless, the company is optimistic about achieving EN1078 certification .

The German company believes that its product should provide a significantly higher level of protection than that required by the agencies. Note that the crowdfunding campaign for this revolutionary inflatable helmet reached its goal of around €10,000 in just six hours. The price of this product is €119 for the first contributors and €139 thereafter.
