Ipsum Tek Launches Crowdfunding to Manufacture a Waiter Robot

A promotional video by Ipsum Tek showcases an android delivering drinks in a hotel, highlighting its ability to navigate and use elevators autonomously. Set for a 2025 debut, this AI-driven solution addresses staffing shortages in the service industry but raises concerns about job displacement. A 2023 survey found 51% view AI as both a danger and progress.

Ipsum Tek, a company based in Avignon, has just launched a crowdfunding campaign for 300,000 euros on the Crowdcube platform to help it deploy the industrial production of the Onyro robot, an automaton using artificial intelligence to perform service tasks in hotels. More than 160,000 euros have already been raised.

In a promotional video posted on Ipsum Tek’swebsite, guests of a hotel can be seen ordering a drink on a dedicated app

Then, we see the android’s articulated arm grab a can of soda and a straw before placing them on a tray. Then the field opens and we discover, with somewhat fantastical music in the background, the silhouette of the machine, its bulging eyes and its beret. It then heads towards the elevator, which it calls itself, to take the order to the guests’ room. First deliveries are scheduled for 2025 with several orders already recorded.

In its presentation pitch on the crowdfunding site, Ipsum Tek explains that “the service industry is facing a global shortage of staff, leading to reduced customer satisfaction and operational inefficiencies. This challenge is straining resources and compromising the quality of the service provided.”

However, Ipsum Tek’s project may worry staff who do the same work. Concerns are heightened by artificial intelligence. In a survey published by the newspaper Le Point in April 2023, 51% of respondents paradoxically see AI as both a danger to humanity and progress, and 80% of them believe that its development must be regulated.

Ipsum Tek’s robot seen as an alternative

Faced with the various issues of the service industry, ONYRO stands out as a fully autonomous solution , which stands out from the robot carts currently on the market. Ipsum Tek, the expert in service robotics and artificial intelligence , has launched a crowdfunding campaign to encourage investors to support the growth of its product, intended to revolutionize the hotel industry.

According to studies, the hospitality sector appears to be facing significant challenges in recruiting and retaining staff. At the same time, the aging population and its increasing need for personalized services are exacerbating these challenges. Moreover, labor shortages are a global problem that threatens the entire service industry, leading to operational inefficiencies and negatively impacting customer satisfaction. In this context, the use of automated solutions, such as ONYRO, represents a viable alternative.

ONYRO, a robot serving the hotel, catering and event industries

Unlike the robot carts available in the service sector, ONYRO is a mobile robot that is autonomous and does not require human intervention. It has a functional arm and can operate for 8 hours without recharging.

Using AI, it is able to understand requests and transports dishes, drinks and objects without being hindered by obstacles. It opens doors, takes elevators and easily moves around crowded spaces. It can therefore replace mini-bars in hotels.

Its design is modern and it is completely secure against tipping. Made in France by Ipsum Tek, it has a price that constitutes an economical alternative for hotels.
