In Novemebr, the Vienna Book Fair Will Bring Together 500 Authors and 300 Exhibitors
Book Vienna 2024, Austria’s premier book fair, runs from November 20-24 with 300 publishers and 511 authors from 27 nations. Highlights include readings, debates, workshops, a Science Lounge, and a New Adult section featuring social media stars. Free entry for children under 14, and book valuation services are also available.
In November, the authors and publishing industry will meet again at the Vienna Book Fair. 300 exhibitors and more than 500 authors will be there over five days of the fair, and there will be a separate New Adult area for young people.
The big Frankfurt Book Fair comes to an end this Sunday, and in a few weeks many from the industry will meet again at Vienna Book Fair.
It is of course much smaller, but it is still Austria’s most important book fair, where – this year from November 20th to 24th – not only more than 300 publishers from 27 nations present themselves: Vienna Book Fair also sees itself as a festival, there are numerous readings (this year there are 511 authors taking part), debates (from international politics to technology) and also workshops.
New at the Vienna Book Fair this year is a so-called Science Lounge, which aims to counteract scientific skepticism with various programs for visitors of all ages and encounters with researchers
The Vienna Book Festival traditionally begins on Wednesday evening (20 November) with an opening speech, this year by the German philosopher and ex-politician Julian Nida-Rümelin on the future of democracy. Afterwards, from 6 p.m., the Long Night of Books begins, including a poetry slam and several book presentations from Toxic Pommes (6 p.m.) to Joachim Meyerhoff (8 p.m.).
As always, there is a varied program for children (entry free for children under 14 years old) at the Book Vienna Fair. They can explore the Vienna Book Fair on their own with a puzzle tour or take part in one of the many workshops (including the “Little Salon of Illustration”) or – for young people aged 14 and over – attend a fake news discussion with expert Ingrid Brodnig. The Technical Museum is also there with a “Road Lab” where children can experiment with 3D printing.
The aim is to appeal to teenagers and young adults with a new adult section, which also features some social media stars such as Jane S. Wonda and Nena Tramountani.
Anyone who has (supposed) book treasures at home can have them valued free of charge by the Association of Antiquarians, present at the Vienna Book Fair. As usual, you can of course also buy books: Thalia will once again have a large pop-up bookshop right at the entrance.
