Sustainable Restoration of the Haus Hövener Garden in Brilon
The Brilon Construction Workers Association is restoring the Haus Hövener garden into a cultural community space, funded through a €10,000 crowdfunding campaign. Local companies contribute work voluntarily, while donations cover materials. Features include a bell tower, stage, and seating areas. Volksbank Brilon boosts donations, and supporters can win exclusive wine evenings in the redesigned garden.
The Brilon Construction Workers Association (Briloner Bauhandwerker e. V.) is planning a sustainable restoration of the garden at Haus Hövener. The goal is to transform the museum garden into a lively space for encounters, culture, and community. To support this initiative financially, a crowdfunding campaign has been launched on the “Many Can Achieve More” platform operated by Volksbank Brilon.
The project is a joint effort involving several partners: the Haus Hövener Museum, the Brilon Heritage Association Semper Idem e. V., and the South Westphalia Chamber of Skilled Crafts (HwK). According to a press release from the Chamber, the campaign aims to mobilize broad community support. Following the cooperative principle that collective effort leads to greater success, the initiative encourages individuals to contribute and help create a place that unites tradition, culture, and social interaction.
The crowdfunding campaign has a target of €10,000, while the total estimated cost of the project is approximately €24,000. Donations exceeding the initial goal are therefore welcomed. The organizers emphasize that widespread participation is essential to bring the project in Brilon to life.
Community Engagement and Incentives for Donors in Brilon
Yvonne Köhler from the Skilled Workforce Development Department of the South Westphalia Chamber of Skilled Crafts highlights the significance of the initiative, noting that it demonstrates how skilled tradespeople take responsibility for their region. Numerous local companies in Brilon are involved, contributing their labor and expertise voluntarily.
Among the participating businesses are Karl Becker Haustechnik, Kersting Sägewerk-Zimmerei GmbH, Prange GmbH, Fliesen Kloke, SMP Architekten GmbH, Schröder + Hilkenbach GmbH, Malerbetrieb Schreckenberg, Heckmann Bau GmbH & Co. KG, Prange Klempnertechnik GmbH, ETR Elektrotechnische Anlagen GmbH, and Rossimedia GmbH & Co. KG.
The planned redesign of the museum garden includes several new features. A central element will be a bell tower that highlights the previously less visible bells, emphasizing their cultural importance for the region. Additional improvements include atmospheric lighting, a stage for cultural events, and a marble run designed for children. Infrastructure enhancements such as paving work, redesigned seating areas, and new water and electricity connections will ensure that the space can be used for various events.
Köhler stresses that all donated funds will be used exclusively for material costs and essential construction work, as the tradespeople are providing their services free of charge.
An additional incentive for donors is the co-funding program offered by Volksbank Brilon. The bank doubles every initial donation up to €25 and contributes an extra €25 to larger donations. This matching continues until a total of €2,000 in co-funding is reached or the campaign achieves its funding goal. Since the total project cost exceeds the initial target, donations remain valuable even after the €10,000 mark has been reached.
Supporters also have the opportunity to participate in a special raffle. Ten exclusive wine evenings for two people each, featuring fine canapés in the newly redesigned garden of the Haus Hövener Museum, will be awarded to selected donors.
