Chabad Barcelona Raises €144,528 to Strengthen Jewish Life and Community Programs
Chabad Barcelona raised €144,528 in just 48 hours before Yom Kippur to sustain and expand its community programs. Active for over 30 years, it offers religious, educational, and social activities year-round. Led by Rabbi David Libersohn, the campaign’s success reaffirms its role as a key center of Jewish life in Spain and the Chabad movement.

The “Chabad Barcelona” Jewish Community raised €144,528 in a fundraising campaign held in the days leading up to Yom Kippur. The initiative, carried out through the platform charidy.com, was successfully completed in just 48 hours. The goal was to ensure the sustainability of its programs and services for the benefit of Jewish life in the city.
The chosen slogan was “Join us. Together we make a difference,” and it was accompanied by a video urging donors to “get into their Judaism, into what resonates with them, and what truly matters to them.”
An active community for three decades
Chabad Barcelona has been present in the Catalan capital for over 30 years and develops a wide range of activities aimed at different audiences. These include “safe spaces for Jewish families,” initiatives aimed at youth, and more than a hundred events and gatherings throughout the year.
“This year, 5786, I have no message for you, because I am truly absorbed in the passion necessary for all this activity to succeed, and in that, you and I are absolutely necessary,” Rabbi David Libersohn said in a promotional video released during the campaign.
The rabbi, who leads the community, also took the opportunity to outline the goals for the coming months. ” We will be much more energetic, with more ideas, with more commitment,” he said, alluding to the beginning of the new year 5786 on the Hebrew calendar. In his message, he also conveyed a personal wish: “We long for the return of the victorious soldiers and the kidnapped to their homes.”
Barcelona, a benchmark for the Chabad movement
In various parts of the world, Chabad centers tend to attract tourists and casual visitors. However, in Barcelona, the community has established itself over the years as a stable institution with a continuous presence , with religious, educational, and cultural activities open year-round.
The center holds a daily minyan , as well as charitable and social projects aimed at strengthening local Jewish life. The funds raised from this campaign will contribute to the support of these initiatives, which constitute the core of community life.
Since its inception, Chabad’s philosophy has been to provide spaces of encounter and continuity for Jews of all ages, with a special focus on the transmission of traditions, education, and solidarity. In the case of Barcelona, this mission has been reinforced with the support of hundreds of donors who responded to the campaign’s call before Yom Kippur.
A campaign that marks the beginning of the year
The success of this fundraising effort reflects a renewed commitment at the start of the new Hebrew year. The amount raised will allow for the expansion of current activities and the planning of new medium-term projects.
In his message, Rabbi Libersohn emphasized that community participation is key to sustaining the center’s dynamism. ” You and I are absolutely necessary in this ,” he emphasized, calling for the involvement of members and supporters.
The Chabad Barcelona community, with more than three decades of work, thus reaffirms its position as one of the most active centers of Jewish life in Spain, consolidating its role both locally and in connection with the movement’s international network.
