The Diaspora for the Sustainable Development of Africa (DIAFASUD) is the new NGO that was officially presented to the Burkinabe public during a press conference on Saturday, October 23rd, 2021, in Ouagadougou. The presentation of this NGO of pan-African scope was followed by the official launch of activities, the first of which will be held from August 19th to 21st, 2022 in Ouagadougou.
Officially created in 2017 in the United States and recognized in Burkina in February 2021, the Diaspora for the Sustainable Development of Africa (DIAFASUD) was officially presented to the Burkinabe public on October 23rd, 2021. DIAFASUD, as its name indicates, is a new non-governmental and non-political organization that was initiated by the Burkinabe diaspora living in the United States in order to contribute to the sustainable development of Burkina Faso and Africa.
His presentation was followed by the official launch of activities, including the 72 hours of DIAFASUD which will be held from August 19th to 21st, 2022 in Ouagadougou. This is an annual event that will bring together members of the NGO and partners, according to its president and founder, Issiffou Ouédraogo. During this event, the Night of the Diaspora is planned, during which the best project investors will be rewarded.
Other activities also planned are the Diaspora Cup, awareness sessions for youth to instill a spirit of patriotism and interest in participating in DIAFASUD programs. All these different activities, according to him, will be available online for the diaspora.

DIAFASUD aims to be a pan-African NGO
DIAFASUD wants to be a pan-African NGO and offers the African diaspora in the world an opportunity to invest in various programs for the sustainable development of Africa, said Issiffou Ouédraogo. These programs concern sectors such as education, health, environment, economic and social development.
DIAFASUD also intends to contribute to reforestation, youth awareness, financing of development projects, and reintegration of the diaspora. According to his explanations, even if the NGO is only present in the United States and Burkina Faso, it wants to be pan-African, because it will be established in all continents where there is an African diaspora.
And the general coordinator and country representative, Saibata Sawadogo, added that in terms of members, DIAFASUD is a network of young people who already have about 400 members throughout Burkina Faso. Activities carried out in the field include training sessions for young people and the distribution of food to internally displaced persons in Ouagadougou and Kaya, etc.
In addition, DIAFASUD implements several projects with major innovations, because it intends to create a healthy and ideal environment that will allow an influx of funds, knowledge, and professional experience from outside for the benefit of the African economy and for the creation, financing, and management of social and economic development projects, explains its president.
According to Issiffou Ouédraogo, DIAFASUD also proposes, in its intervention plan, the planting of trees and the creation of green spaces of a surface of one hectare in several areas and per year in Burkina. The maintenance and protection of these forests and gardens will be done in partnership with women who live near the areas concerned, but also in partnership with the authorities or national or local institutions competent in environmental reforestation. The NGO also plans to create a program of volunteers from the diaspora passing through Africa, the creation of a city of the diaspora, etc.
