Reefilla Closes a €4.5 Million Round and Launches an Equity Crowdfunding campaign
Reefilla, a leader in mobile energy storage and battery reuse, raised €800,000 through crowdfunding and venture capital, led by CDP Venture Capital’s Green Transition Fund. The funds will expand its market presence, develop second-life battery technologies, and launch off-grid solutions by 2025. Reefilla aims to drive accessible, sustainable, zero-emission energy innovations globally.
Reefilla, an Italian startup that develops energy storage and mobile power generation solutions also based on second life batteries, has completed a new capital increase of €4.5 million.
In addition to the funding raised from venture capital funds, Reefilla has decided to open its capital to private investors through an equity crowdfunding campaign on Mamacrowd, with a collection target of €800,000.
The details of the round
The recently closed round was led by CDP Venture Capital through the Green Transition-PNRR Fund, financed with NextGeneration EU resources with the aim of stimulating growth.
The round was attended by the PiemonteNext fund, established and managed by CDP Venture Capital Sgr and subscribed by the regional financial company FinPiemonte, HCapital (a Portuguese venture capital fund making its first investment in Italy), Azimut through the venture capital fund AZIMUT ELTIF – Venture Capital ALIcrowd III and Motor Valley Accelerator, the first investor in Reefilla, which represents the reference Open Innovation platform for startups and companies in the automotive sector.
The latter is an initiative of CDP Venture Capital with the participation of Fondazione Modena and UniCredit and managed by Plug and Play, also as co-investor, and CRIT. The operation aims to support Reefilla in its mission to make energy accessible everywhere (“energy everywhere”).
Reefilla, a benchmark in energy storage solutions
Founded in Turin in 2021 by Marco Bevilacqua, Pietro Balda and Gabriele Bergoglio, Reefilla has quickly become a point of reference in mobile energy storage and power generation solutions, also with a circular economy process by giving batteries a second life (“second life”).
Specializing in the advanced design of mobile energy storage systems and vehicle battery lifecycle management, Reefilla’s mission is to repurpose yesterday’s vehicle batteries to power tomorrow’s electrified applications.
Following the success of Fillee, the first mobile charging device for electric vehicles, the company is preparing to launch new off-grid power generation solutions in 2025 to meet the growing needs of the energy market.
This injection of new Equity follows the €1 million round closed in 2022, which allowed Reefilla to bring its technology to the market and consolidate a high-profile customer portfolio, including corporate fleets, car sharing services and partnerships with leading mobility companies.
The capital raised represents a further step in the growth path of Reefilla, born at the I3P incubator of the Polytechnic of Turin and developed with the support of the Motor Valley Accelerator of Modena.
“We are proud to have attracted the interest of Italian and international capital in support of a clear vision and a concrete industrial project – explains Marco Bevilacqua, CEO and Co-Founder of Reefilla – We want to build a circular supply chain that enhances the reuse of batteries and offers tailor-made energy solutions for people and companies. We believe that the future of energy must be responsible, accessible, zero-emission and we are committed to contributing to this revolution in a concrete way.”
The use of the capital raised and the next objectives
The new capital will be used to expand Reefilla’s presence on the Italian and foreign markets and to support research and development of advanced Made in Italy technologies for the qualification of “second life” batteries , transforming end-of-life batteries from a problem to a resource.
In 2025, Reefilla will inaugurate a Competence Center at its new headquarters in Turin, dedicated to testing, battery qualification that allows a “second life” and the production of the new range of products. This will represent an important opportunity for the territory and for Italian innovation, creating new jobs and attracting talent.
