The flood that hit Como and its lake has made headlines in recent days. A tide of water and mud suddenly poured over the small villages overlooking our wonderful lake and transformed in a few hours a dream landscape into a nightmare.

The photos of the places we love, disfigured by the fury of the water, have gone around the world and, with them, the stories of many people brought to their knees by the flood. Many families had to abandon their homes either because they were uninhabitable or because they were threatened by the numerous landslides that broke away from the slopes of the Larian mountains. Sad images, as well as those of Lake Como submerged by debris.

Fundraising campaigns to hlep people affected by the flood

“As always, our people are ready to lend a hand to face the difficulties. I have seen that municipalities and private citizens have immediately activated fundraising campaigns. Even the Community Foundation has decided to set up the Lake Como Flood Fund and to make available to all those who want to donate its services: the tax benefits, which can exceed even more than 40% of the amount donated; the crowdfunding platform, which allows you to use a variety of payment instruments. We hope to be, as happened for the pandemic, a point of reference so that we can guarantee maximum effectiveness to the interventions that will be made to safeguard our territory and assist the people who have been affected by the flood. In fact, we are aware that the needs of the people and places affected by the flood will not end with the removal of the quintals of debris and mud, which poured into the streets and the lake.” Said Martino Verga, President of the Provincial Foundation.

The Cassa Rurale ed Artigiana di Cantù BCC, as always, is at the side of the Provincial Foundation, demonstrating, with its donation, a great sensitivity to the entire territory.
