Iwate Prefecture in northeastern Japan is launching an innovative project that allows hotel guests to directly support species conservation through their stay. Morioka Zoological Park Zoomo, together with partners, has started a crowdfunding campaign to create a themed hotel room at Yunomori Hotel Shindotaira in Hanamaki, Japan.

The campaign runs until May 24th and aims to raise 5 million yen, approximately 31,300 euros. The planned room will accommodate up to four guests and feature a design inspired by “Satoyama,” a traditional rural landscape in Japan where human life and nature coexist in balance.

To recreate this atmosphere, the room at Yunomori Hotel Shindotaira in Hanamaki, Japan, will include animal-shaped furniture, artificial greenery, and plush toys, offering guests a unique and immersive environment.

A key goal of the project is to increase awareness of nature conservation in Japan. If the campaign exceeds its funding target, organizers intend to expand the concept by adding interactive elements that engage all five senses. These may include natural sounds such as animal calls and carefully designed scents that evoke the outdoors, further deepening the immersive experience.

Beyond offering an unusual accommodation, the initiative is designed to highlight the importance of protecting endangered habitats and species. Revenue generated from room bookings will contribute directly to improving the zoo in Japan.

In addition, a portion equal to five percent of all revenue generated from guest room bookings, along with associated sales and services, will be set aside and contributed to a dedicated Zoomo fund. This fund is specifically established to help finance ongoing improvements and upgrades to the facility, ensuring that it continues to meet high standards of quality and comfort.

At the same time, it will also play an important role in supporting environmental and wildlife conservation initiatives, including efforts aimed at rescuing, treating, and rehabilitating wild animals that are injured, ill, or in need of care.

According to Tsunenori Tsujimoto, director of Zoomo, the project is about building a stronger emotional connection between people and the natural world in Japan. He expressed hope that the experience will encourage guests to appreciate nature more deeply and see it as something worth protecting.
