Crowdfunding to Save the Best Viewpoint of Almenara
With this acquisition, the environmental group aims to ensure the protection of this promontory of about 30 meters high, as well as to use it for public use. “In fact, one of our objectives is to convert the Ràpita into the best observatory from which to enjoy the special landscape of the Marjal de Almenara,” explained Enric Amer, veteran environmentalist and member of Agró.
With the slogan “Volem que aquest mirador privilegiat de la Marjal d’Almenara siga de totes i tots,” Acció Ecologista-Agró, launched a crowdfunding campaign, in order to raise funds to purchase the land known as the Muntanyeta de la Ràpita, which is attached to the area of Els Estanys de Almenara, in the municipality of La Llosa. An initiative with which they have already managed to raise €35,000 of the €40,000 needed to guarantee the purchase of this space.
La de la Ràpita is a hill located in the heart of the Special Area of Conservation (SAC) of the Marjal de Almenara with the typical vegetation of the thermo-Mediterranean maquia, which brings together species such as palmettos, mastic trees, Aleppo pines and a variety of aromatic plants.

Sale procedure
A space that was sold without being offered to the naturalist group, owner of other adjoining plots, such as the one where the Ullal de Quartons is located. That is why, at present, a process of retraction is being executed to reverse that sale so that the land can be acquired by Agró at the same price. “The documentation is already in the hands of Court number 4 of Nules and we even have the amount of the deposit, in case we are asked for it,” explained Enric Amer, veteran environmentalist and member of Agró.

Ecological corridor to be created after the crowdfunding campaign ends
The will of this group is to enable an ecological corridor “that connects this wetland of international importance with the coastal mountains of Palancia and Belcaire. Even, if we get the necessary resources, we want to establish an interpretation center of the marsh,” said Amer.
In the last 30 years, this protected wetland has gone from being at risk of disappearing to environmental excellence, “thanks to the work of Acción Ecologista-Agró and the people, administrations, and entities that have supported us. Among other projects, we have promoted the purchase and custody of the territory of strategic sites in this area”. This is the case of the ullals of Cavanilles and Quartons, “two farms that we acquired with the collaboration of citizens and that we restored as natural springs,” he added.
