You’re traveling to work, or you’re going someplace to visit a friend, but you dozed off.

When you wake up, you find out that you’ve missed the train or bus stop where you’re supposed to get off.

That kind of situation can be frustrating, if not stressful.

Fret no more because Google Maps will soon launch a feature that will issue real-time notifications to inform a traveler or commuter if he or she already needs to get off a train or bus.

Real-time notification

A TechCrunch report said the real-time notification that will appear in the app or on the lock screen of an Android gadget.

Here’s how it goes.

You search for directions to your destination on Google Maps. Then hit the “start” button at the bottom the screen with the details about your trip.

You will receive live updates as you walk or ride a bus, train or cab.

Reminder

Based on what they know, TechCrunch said Google Maps would remind a traveler or commuter “to get off the bus or train when he or she gets close to his or her stop.”

That’s something that would be useful when traveling in a new place or when the traveler is dozing.

The lock screen notifications, on the other hand, are interactive so the user “can scroll right through his or her journey’s steps.

The feature, which will be rolled out soon and Google may even be testing it already on a few people, comes just after Google Maps underwent a site upgrade.

Also, Google now included a way for users to explore moons and nearby planets using images received on earth from satellites.
