The Green Leaf Society’s Harvest Was Distributed in Berlin
Berlin’s Green Leaf Society, the city’s first legal cannabis cooperative, distributes ten grams monthly to members for €89, with additional purchases possible. Approved for indoor cultivation, the cooperative emphasizes youth protection and responsible operations. High demand followed its licensing, with plans to expand cultivation and carefully manage new memberships starting in February.
The “Green Leaf Society” cultivation association in Marzahn-Hellersdorf has now harvested, prepared and bagged exactly two kilograms of cannabis. During the weekend, the first 50 of the 70 members so far were able to enjoy the first legal cannabis for recreational purposes.
“Every member receives their ten grams of harvest share as well as their additional registered needs,” said the chairwoman of the Green Leaf Society, Jana Halbreiter, to the German Press Agency. In order to avoid a large rush, a delivery date was agreed for each interested party.
The Green Leaf Society’s harvest is the first legal one in Berlin
The cannabis cooperative “Green Leaf Society” is so far the only association in Berlin that has received permission for communal cannabis cultivation. Indoor cultivation takes place in a commercial property, the location of which is kept secret for security reasons.
At the end of August, the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district office gave the green light.”The Green Leaf Society’s application can certainly be considered exemplary in many respects,” said the district councillor for youth, family and health, Gordon Lemm (SPD), at the time.
“However, the application before us is characterized by a high sense of responsibility and serious structural considerations, which made it much easier for us to approve it.” The health and youth protection concept alone is around 40 pages long. Each member of the Green Leaf Society is guaranteed ten grams of cannabis per month.
For this, members of the Green Leaf Society cannabis association pay a basic amount of 89 euros. Anyone who needs more can reserve some, provided stocks allow it. One gram costs around 8.30 euros, plus military tax. An increase in the cultivation area is planned for the second half of the year.
New members into the Green Leaf Society are to be accepted from February. Demand is high. “In the first week after receiving the license, we received 250 membership requests,” said the club’s board chairwoman in September last year. However, the green Leaf Society cannabis association would ensure a “balanced membership structure” and not respond positively to every membership application.
